Hit rapper Da Brat announces to the world that she and her wife are expecting their first child together
Da Brat, the rap artist recognized for accomplishments such as her first album "Funkdafied" album reaching platinum status, (marking her as the first female solo act to earn the accolade), has announced in an interview with People magazine (http://bitly.ws/Azdq) that she and her wife Jesseca Harris-Dupart are expecting their first child together. Da Brat, real name Shawntae Harris-Dupart, shares that the news has exposed the couple to a particularly exciting experience, particularly given their respective ages (Da Brat at 48 and Jessica at 41).
"It's been quite a journey..."there's a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40," Da Brat tells People.
Da Brat's partner already had children from a previous marriage, however since their marriage last year the couple had been preparing to have children. This endeavor was not without complications, as Brat required surgery to remove fibroids and polyps in order to be clear for her embryo transfer procedure; even after the successful surgery, the couple unfortunately experienced a miscarriage. Still, this did not deter Da Brat and Dupart-Harris from their efforts, which appear to have finally paid off.
Da Brat's pregnancy does not seem to stifling her or Jesseca's work, however. The Chicago rapper is currently working on new music while continuing to serve as co-host on the shows Dish Nation and The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, as well as starring alongside her wife in their reality show Brat Loves Judy. Also, they two plan to launch a joint-venture in the form of the Da Brat x Kaleidoscope, a collection of hair-care products set to be sold across major retailers.
