A lawsuit between JAY-Z and the photographer behind some of his most iconic album covers has recently been settled
JAY-Z recently reached a settlement with with Jonathan Mannion, the photographer responsible for some of the rapper's most iconic album-covers, such as those for "The Blueprint", "Reasonable Doubt", and "Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life". The two engaged in a legal-scuffle when Hov sued Mannion under the belief of the photographer selling prints of the rapper on his website without his consent, leading to JAY-Z legal team demanding Mannion to cease selling the Roc Nation artist's likeness. In response, Mannion allegedly demanded to be paid thousands in dollars. The lawsuit was scheduled to go to court this March, but this no longer appears necessary given a settlement being reached. Court documents obtained by AllHipHop (http://bitly.ws/zpPm) reveal that both JAY-Z and Mannion notified the judge of their agreement and requested the judge to vacate trial.
Mannion's portfolio goes beyond his collaborations with JAY-Z, as he's shot the album covers of artists like DMX ("Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood"), Nas ("God's Son"), and Eminem ("The Eminem Show"). The photographer's work also includes portraits for numerous other artists, such as Drake, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Outkast, and Lil Wayne.
