The rapper is expected to leave jail after being arrested and charged in New York City on possessing illegal weapons
Bronx rapper Lil Tjay looking to leave jail on a $90k bond after being charged Monday, Jan. 16th for having illegal firearms. Tjay was stopped by police on his way to the filming of Ice Spice's music video for their "Gangsta Boo" collaboration for idling in a no-standing zone, to which the authorities searched the rapper's Cadillac Escalade and found several handguns. Tjay and four others in the vehicle were then arrested when they could not present any licenses for the weapons.
In a statement to TMZ (http://bitly.ws/z9zs), Tjay's lawyer Dawn Florio claims that the arrest was illegal, arguing that the officers at the scene not only had no credible reason to conduct a search of the vehicle. but that the SUV was parked legally and the guns inside were not Tjay's. She also believes the police had targeted her client after the rapper posted about the video shoot with Ice Spice on social media. The arrest comes months after Lil Tjay made a full recovery from multiple gunshot wounds sustained in Chicago last summer. He is expected back in court Jan. 20th.
