Marvel Is Removing 'Kang Dynasty' From Avengers Title Following Jonathan Majors' Conviction

Marvel took significant action following Jonathan Majors' conviction. Now, the studio is reportedly contemplating dropping 'The Kang Dynasty' title altogether.

According to a recent article from The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios' internal missteps were highlighted, alongside Majors' arrest last March for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. This incident occurred just one month after Majors made his Marvel film debut as Kang the Conqueror in 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania', a film that received a lukewarm reception. Majors also appeared in the first season of the Disney Plus series 'Loki' and was set to return for its second season, with scenes already filmed before his arrest.

It appears that Marvel is now considering completely abandoning the villain's storyline, despite initially planning for 'Avengers 5' to be titled 'The Avengers: The Kang Dynasty'. According to THR, the film, slated for release in 2026, may now either significantly reduce the character's role or remove him entirely, with a new title in consideration. However, insiders suggest that this change was already in motion prior to Majors' arrest due to the perceived "underperformance" of 'Quantumania', which grossed $476 million globally.

Speculation has arisen about Emmy-winning actor Colman Domingo potentially stepping in to replace Majors as Kang, but no official confirmation has been made. Domingo is currently slated to portray Joe Jackson in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic.

Owing to the disruptions caused by Hollywood strikes and the rescheduling of Marvel projects, some productions are still in the writing phase, while completed shows like Ironheart have yet to announce a release date. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for July 26, with the newly revealed Fantastic Four reboot set to premiere next summer.

Disney Plus recently premiered the show Echo, while Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is slated for release on September 19.
