SZA's New Album "SOS" Needs No Help

The R&B star's latest studio album makes history for both female artists and the genre

SZA's latest album SOS has taken the world by storm, claiming the top spot on this week's Billboard 200 for the fourth week in a row. The album warded off being overtaken by albums like Drake and 21 Savage's Her Loss and Taylor Swift's Midnights. This longevity demonstrated by SOS has placed the album in R&B history books for being the first album in the genre by a woman to hold a #1 spot on music charts for its initial four weeks since Janet Jackson's janet back in 1994, as well as the first R&B album by a women to spend four weeks at the top of the charts since Alicia Keys' As I Am. SOS also serves as the first album by an woman to hold the top spot for four weeks consecutively since Adele's 30, which held its #1 position for six weeks last year.

These milestones have garnered praise for SZA from both fans and artists, including Alicia Keys herself, Justin Timberlake, Lil Nas X, Justin Bieber, and Lizzo among others. Hype for the album is likely to last with SZA's SOS Tour occurring this year, starting February 21 in Columbus, Ohio spanning across the country to cities like New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and more before ending on March 31.
